Golf Pitch Shots Are Easy With This Drill
A lot of golfers suffer badly when faced with a pitch shot. But pitching needn’t be tough or difficult. But like any other golf shot it requires the correct setup to help guarantee a good golf shot. And that I believe is where a lot of golfers make pitch shots much tougher than they need to be.
So in this post I’m going to give you a great drill that will help you to hit better pitch shots more often.
Now when playing your pitch shots you want to reduce the movement in your lower body and this pitching drill is going to help you do exactly that.
To do this pitching drill simply setup to a pitch shot as normal. Make sure your ball is positioned in the middle of your stance however. That is very important.
Once setup I then want you to make sure 60-70% of your weight is placed on your left side. After you have done this then raise your right heel off the ground by a couple of inches.
By setting up like this it will put most of your weight on the balls of your feet and most of the weight will be on your left side.
When you hit your pitch shot from this right heel up setup position I want you to make sure that all throughout your swing your right heel remains in the same position (i.e. off the ground) all throughout the backswing and downswing.
In you follow-through you can let it come up off the ground even more however.
By hitting pitch shots like this it will help you to keep your weight on your left side all throughout the backswing and downswing. Also, it helps to keep your leg’s passive and quiet as you’re swinging.
I want you to hit at least 50 shots like this before you play a pitch shot with your heel down on the ground.
You may find however that you play better “normal” pitch shots by keeping your right heel off the ground like you did in the drill. If that happens don’t worry about it. Just keep doing it and understand that it doesn’t need to be a couple of inches off the ground. You can raise your right heel just off the ground and no one would know you’re doing it.
You watch, if you keep your weight on your left leg as you’re playing pitch shots and you keep your leg’s quiet you’ll hit much better pitch shots more often. That’s when you’ll find pitch shots are easy!
