One time I planned out a game of golf before I played and took 5 shots off my average score of 110. For some reason I have never done it again. This has just reminded me!! I am enjoying this video series a lot.

Really enjoyed the video. Liked the ending. Sadly you don’t see enough of that when you watch the tour on TV.

Great stuff, particularly about focusing on your target/pre-shot routine and NOT your score!

Great discussion format, agree with the analysis of amateur play being one myself. I have realised that without the basics the game will elude you. I like the detail of your basics i.e fundamentals, planning etc. all of which WILL make a difference.

John. It was great revisiting this video. I took on your challenge but it took me 3 years. I still go on the range twice a week and I have my goals for each session. For each shot I go through my pre shot routine. I stand behind the mat and pick my spot and visualise the shot – walk forward and hit the ball. (just as I would on the course). This helped me take my range game to the course. I got more from your instruction than from anywhere else. Thanks.
PS 4 over par today 5th Oct in high winds!

In the videos it all looks very controlled, we hackers do a practice swing that is perfect yet,
as we all know, when we actually come to hit the ball there is a fear that we will make a
complete mess of it, especially with a gallery!!
This is all very good stuff though and I shall follow the tips and hopefully improve my own game.

All excellent points – really like the one regarding the goal setting. So often we golf and only seem to worry about the score. Great videos of pros – they make the swing look so simple.

I think it very important to realize that all of these professional golfers arrive early and warm up by stretching, eating a good meal, hitting balls at the range and putting and bunker work as well.
Most amateurs do very little if any of these pre round things. Maybe a few putts, but really little stretching and hitting balls at the range pre round consists of hitting the “Big Dog” mostly.
Notice the pre shot swings by these men are not full swings, they are basically small, gentle swings that are mostly involved in their minds eye as they visualize the target. The work has already been done before the round.
Good post guys, great information, keep it coming!

I need some one to create a video lesson plan for caddies training. Can you refer me to some one who can provide that.

The mistakes described by you certainly are logical and understandable. Let me try them out before i can submit my comments…Regards

All very logical & great advice – amazing that it’s FREE !!!

  22. David T on October 7, 2011 at 10:36 pm

Great Stuff!!! I used the same pre-shot routine before every one of my shots today. I visualized the ball flight just like you said. Wow!! I shot my best round of the year. Thanks so much for all your great information!!!

  23. Doug Janes on October 9, 2011 at 5:28 pm

I made no. 2 & 3 mistakes just yesterday! No breakfast until after the round was over and, we were joined by a single who every shot just walked up to the ball and hit it straight. I was very envious of him for not having to take a bunch of practice swings like the others in the group. I now realize the importace of preparing for a round by maintIning your energy level and the importance having a set preshot routine. Can’t wait to incorporate these.

  24. James Burroughs on October 10, 2011 at 3:25 am

That is what I do when I play golf. I look at the ground to see what to hit over on the line I want to send the ball. I’ve been trying to hit the ball straight. I haven’t been trying to fade or draw the ball yet. That is what I’m starting to work on next. I’m also trying to use an inside to outside swing path. I’ve been closing my clubface and hitting the ball straight and sometimes pulling the ball to the left. That’s what I’m working on, trying to hit the ball from the inside with a straIght, not closed clubface.
