Golf Tip – Prevent Your Weight Going To The Outside Of Your Right Foot
Golf Tip Question
In your instructions you say to start the backswing with a slight bump of the hip to the right. I’ve tried to do this but my weight goes to the outside of my right foot. And I know this isn’t good but what can I do to prevent it?
Golf Tip Answer
You’re right, you should start your backswing with a slight bump of your hip to the right. But as you’ve said, you don’t want your weight to go to the outside of your right foot.
So here is a very simple way to train yourself to do the bump to the right, while keeping your weight on the inside of the right foot.
To do this drill, setup to a golf shot as normal, but then place a ball under the outside of your right foot, like this…
Then after doing that, simply start your backswing with a lateral shift of your hips to the right (e.g. 1 – 2 inches), and then keep swinging back.
You’ll find that you will get the feeling of the lateral hip slide, PLUS keeping the weight on the inside of your right foot (thanks to the ball under the outside of your right foot)… and you’ll feel more centered, while getting the benefits of moving your weight to your right side in the backswing – i.e. more power!
