Ask This Question On The Golf Course To Lower Your Scores

Double bogey’s and worse suck.

They not only make your scores higher than they should be but they also make golf far more frustrating than it needs to be.

But there are simple things you can do to reduce the amount of doubles you make.

Let me explain one very simple thing you can do in your very next round.

Imagine this…

You are playing a long par 4.

You hit an ok drive about 220 yards which leaves you 260 yards to the hole.

You hit a 3 wood about 200 yards but it goes left into the rough.

Now you have 60 yards to go.

The pin is back left and you have a bunker you need to fly over if you go straight at the pin.

Your lie isn’t great… and there’s plenty of room to the right of the bunker to get the ball safely onto the green.

So that’s the situation.

Now when you play next, and you find yourself in a situation like this, I want you to ask yourself one simple question:

How can I make bogey or better from here?

That question instantly changes how you think.

Instead of trying to pull off the perfect shot, your brain starts looking for the smart shot.

In the example above, the smart play is obvious.

You aim to the right side of the green, avoid the bunker completely, hit the middle of the green, take two putts… and walk away with a bogey.

No stress.
No hero shots.
No doubles.

This is exactly how good players think their way around the course.

They don’t try to save every hole.

They simply avoid turning small mistakes into big numbers.

And if you can eliminate just one double bogey per round, your scores will drop immediately.

The next time you’re in trouble on the course, pause for a second and ask yourself:

“How can I make bogey or better?”

You might be surprised how often the answer leads to a much easier hole.
