Where To Position The Golf Ball For Consistent Ball Striking
If you want to become a consistent ball striker then learning where to position the ball in your stance is very important. In this article you’re going to find out exactly where you should position the ball in your stance for consistent ball striking with every club in your bag.
But first, read what Tiger Woods has to say about ball positioning:
“Poor ball position is a silent killer. If you don’t place the ball precisely in relation to your stance, the ball will be playing you instead of you playing the ball. You’ll have to conjure up some type of weird swing movement just to get the club on the ball, and because of that you’ll never be consistent.”
So ball positioning obviously has a big impact on whether or not you will become a consistent ball striker. If you don’t get the ball positioned correctly then you will be forced to make a lot of compensations in your swing and this will cost you ball striking consistency.
Ok, so here is exactly where you should position the ball in your stance to help you become a consistent ball striker:
Driver & 3 Wood: Position the ball off your left foot instep.
Two Iron Thru Six Iron (including hybrids/woods over about 17 degrees): Position the ball a ball width inside your left foot instep.
Seven Iron Thru Nine Iron: Position the ball two ball widths inside your left instep.
Why three different ball positions when one would seem much easier and simpler?
Simply because with a golf driver you need a much more sweeping motion than you do for a 7-iron, which requires a much more downward action.
So there you go. You now know where you need to position the ball for consistent ball striking. It’s now up to you to work on doing it and if you do it will pay off with much better and more consistent ball striking.
Makes perfect sense. Thanks for explaining this. I will try and implement this.
good
What about the wedges??
Hi Mike, for wedges you should place the ball in the middle of your stance. Thanks. Jeff
Sounds good will put it into practice right away
