Rhythm Drill
When you watch long driving pro’s hit the ball like Ernie Els and Fred Couples for example, they swing fast but very smooth. Or in other words they have nice rhythm. Watch there swings to see what I’m talking about:

If your golf swing is jerky and un-rhythmic then you’ll be costing yourself distance. So in today’s lesson I’m going to get you to work on your rhythm by doing a couple of simple things.
First, I want you to learn different speeds of your golf swing. To do this here is a practice plan I want you to go through with your driver.
Hit 5 shots with your driver at 50% of your potential swing speed.
Hit 5 shots with your driver at 60% of your potential swing speed.
Hit 5 shots with your driver at 70% of your potential swing speed.
Hit 5 shots with your driver at 80% of your potential swing speed.
Hit 5 shots with your driver at 90% of your potential swing speed.
After you’ve completed that then I want you to hit drives at pretty much your maximum swing speed. You should leave a little bit left in the tank however to help avoid injury.
But when you’re doing this I want you to swing back and breathe in as you do so and then when you change directions breathe out so when you finish your swing you’ve exhaled all the way out and got nothing left.
This is a great way to learn to swing as fast as you can but still with rhythm because your breathing will help you to maintain a nice rhythmic swing.
Rhythm Drill Task
- Hit 5 shots starting at 50% swing speed with your driver and repeat all the way up to 90% of your potential swing speed
- Hit balls with your driver at full speed while breathing in on the backswing and out on the downswing so you have no breath left at the end of your swing.
