When this book came out it had a lot of hype around it and like most other keen golfers, I bought this book. But after reading it I was disappointed. To me it lacked substance. It covered every part of the game but it really only gave little tips for each. Now there are some good tips in this book BUT it certainly is not a “how to” manual.
Also I got the distinct feeling from this book that it was more to make money than it was to help golfers improve. Some classic golf books from Nicklaus seem to me to give golfers more to actually put into practice — more substance in other words.
But one of the things I liked the best from this book was the swing sequences and pictures. And you can see from these that Tiger’s swing is probably the most perfect of any golfer that has ever lived.
Personally if I hadn’t bought this book I wouldn’t have missed much, if anything, but I know others have read this book and improved their game with some of the tips. I just feel the book doesn’t live up to the name or hype. It should have been called Tiger Woods – Summary Of How I Play Golf.
So if you get this book do so with the knowledge that Tiger is not giving you all his secrets or an in-depth instruction on exactly what he does. If I had been told that before I got this book I would have been happy with it. But it’s like going to see an over-hyped movie.
In summary this book is a good general tip book that may help you to cut a few strokes from your game.
Now I just hope that Tiger does at some point give us a book from him directly on the finer points of the game (i.e. fitness, the mental side of the game etc). But unfortunately I imagine that will happen a few years down the track when he’s finished with competitive golf.
Overall Opinion: Recommended
