When I came across this device it intrigued me because it claims it can teach the perfect swing. So I bought this device and received it very promptly.

Once I openedup the package I quickly figured out how to set this thing up. And first of all I tried to set this gadget up to swing my 5 iron. After much fiddling I got this device positioned so I would be swinging perfectly on plane.

Now my swing is already pretty good so I wasn’t expecting miracles with this device. But how it worked really interested me. So I got out my video camera and I videod myself using this device to hit balls. After this I analyzed my swing plane on my computer and saw that it was improved. One might even say perfect .

Then after doing this I videod me hitting balls normally and then I analyzed those swings and guess what? My swing was pretty much the same as normal!

Now what this confirms to me is that it takes a long time to change a habit.

So this device may get a golfer to swing with a perfect swing plane but will that be of much use? I honestly can’t say because when I video a golfer using this device and then video them hitting balls without it their swings are completely different.

But this Dream Swing does get a golfer to feel what they should be doing as far as the swing plane is concerned. However, to really make a change in the quickest possible time the person needs to exaggerate the opposite of what they’re doing. And with this gadget you can do that.

For example, if a golfer has a flat swing plane and a steep downswing plane you can setup this gadget so the golfer swings back with an upright backswing plane and a flat downswing plane.

The exact opposite of what they’re doing currently. And that’s some good practice.

So I think this device has some merit as far as helping a golfer to feel a good golf swing. And it will also help them to speed up fixing there swing plane problems if they use it to exaggerate the opposite of what they’re currently doing.

But this gadget obviously has one major short fall. It only focuses on the swing and neglects the setup. And every good golfer knows how important the setup is to the swing.

The setup should never be over looked when you’re trying to help a golfer improve their golf swing. Because the setup largely dictates how a golfer is going to swing.

So like so many things in the golf improvement world, this device can be helpful in improving a golfer’s golf swing, but it is not the complete solution. But there is no complete solution anyway.

Overall Opinion: Recommended

  1. Great review Nick. Never tried the device myself but if I see one down the road I’ll give it a shot!

  2. I think it could be a good training aid for true novice who has not established any bad habits/patterns in the swing plane. For those who have established a not-so-perfect swing plane, they still can use it to feel what a good swing plane is and change their plane with persistent using of it. Anyway, perfect practice makes perfect. Right?

  3. I have 68 years of ingrained swing habits. this doesn’t appeal to me. I have trouble repeating the bad ones.

I haven`t tried this gadget and wouldn`t try this gadget. Why? Because I have tried many gadgets and they are all distractions. Their emphasis is away from the complete integration of the mind/body action culminating in a specific result. Instead emphasis is placed on a limited physical movement that has no specific goal. The more I study and play golf the more I realize that the minds ability to visualize the objective, control ones emotions and coordinate the body`s physical activity is the key to a successful golf swing. Unless the mind has a complete picture of the objective you might as well be chopping wood. And, of course a successful golf swing is only part of the game. The rest of the game is where the mind really takes over for better or worse.

  5. Nick,
I have seen this thing at the USGTF school before and they used to really promote its merits. I looked though and it is not still on their website for sale. The principle seems real good though. How does it compare do you think to something like the Explaner? I saw this beign promoted at the PGA show in Orlando a couple weeks ago and could kick myself for not trying it.
    Thanks for all you do,

PS How long does it take to set up properly?

  6. Nick,

I have used the Dream Swing for many years. You are right on with your evalutaion. For me it is a tool that helped me first learn the correct swing path and now helps me to maintain my swing during the long months of winter in Michigan. When I first used it at the driving range I switched several times first using the trainer and then without. The local golf pro came over to check it out and purchased it for use with his students. For me it worked as was advertised.

  7. Nick, how much does it cost?

  8. The cost etc. is on there website. It takes a while to setup and adjust but once it’s done it’s pretty easy to take down and put back up.

  9. “Dream Swing”, “Extra 25+ yards…”, “The secret move the pros use…” Wow! We all buy into the “illusion” in hopes of improving our game. I’ve been playing golf since I was 11 years old. I’ve probably spent a small fortune trying to add, perfect and find the elusive formula (Baring technology – it’s own merit). In all cases, included with the instructions are – ensure that you have the proper grip, balance, set-up… yadayadayada…. Well, you get my drift! By any means this is no attack on training aids – they do serve their purpose. But the golf swing in itself is active, always in motion. It’s not “static” where majority of training contraptions are. Much like putting a dog on a line that goes only so far. Once you remove line the “trained” dog will not go beyond that point. HHHHHmmmm, much like some “teaching instructors”. “Challenge… and evolve yourselves.”

  10. I tried this item late last year and had no luck with it. If anything it was making my swing worse. So, I returned it for a full refund. If you are just learning golf, it may work fine. But for most golfers who have refined swings and hit the ball fairly well, I don’t think it can help.

Just my opinion from someone who has tried it.

  11. Went to golf school in Vegas 2 years ago and worked with the dreamswing in addition to my lesson. For me it was amazing, as I tend to decelerate my swing and with the dreamswing you just can’t do that if you use it properly. I added at least 30 yards to my drives! Love the dreamswing!
