A lot of golfers leave chip shots consistently short of the hole.  If you do that here’s what you need to do…

To get out of a rut of chipping short all the time you simply have to do the opposite.

Go to a practice chipping green and place 20 balls on the ground at about 30 yards from the hole.  Now set a goal of hitting 20 consecutive chip shots past the hole and don’t leave until you’ve done this.  After completing this goal you will be well on the way to chipping more towards the hole, but you may have to repeat this drill a few times to really get out of the chipping short blues.

It’s just a matter of your brain seeing often enough that it’s not the end of the world if the ball goes past the hole, so keep practicing chip shots like this.  Now one more piece of advice…

If you find that your chip shots are going way too long then go back to the practice green and do the same exercise.  But this time practice chipping one chip shot long, one chip short and then one around the hole.  Keep doing this until you are in control and your chip shots will improve.
