Yesterday I completed my 5th golf swing speed test for 2008. Here is the video of me performing this golf swing speed test…
OK, so as you’ve just seen, I averaged 118.2 mph for 10 driver swings on the 21st of April 2008. And that’s an increase of 0.5 mph from the previous test on the 24th of March.
Obviously not a huge improvement after 4 weeks of speed work but it is an improvement at least.
Now after completing the last 4 weeks of workouts I have formulated a swing speed workout theory that hopefully is going to help me to average over 125 mph by the next swing speed test which is going to be on the 19th of May 2008.
I can’t tell you too much about this theory I have because if it works like I hope and I increase my swing speed by over 7 mph in the next 4 weeks it will be a million dollar idea.

To help me achieve this goal, over the next 4 weeks I’m also going to be improving my diet. To be honest I’ve been eating crap lately and it shows. But I’m NOT going to try and lose weight because I don’t think cutting calories is going to do any good for swinging fast. Instead with my new diet I’m going to try and lose some fat and hopefully get some more energy.
To do this my diet is going to be very simple. I am going to be eating clean/natural foods. For example, fruit, vegetables, meat etc.
So nothing processed.
And I’m going to be having 5 meals a day so my metabolism doesn’t slow down. I’ve done this before and it’s a great way to lose fat BUT to do it well you really need to do a lot of aerobic exercise along with lifting weights. And I’m not doing that. But I will have an improved diet to hopefully improve my energy and help me to cut down my fat levels — which can only help me to swing faster.
Finally, I’m going to be taking some creatine over the next four weeks. Creatine is commonly used by power lifters and sprinters to improve power and speed.
It’s going to be interesting to see if all of this helps me to reach my goal or not. We’ll see how it goes in 4 weeks time.

I am 82 years old and my swing speed is about 85 is there any thing I can do to get more speed? My health is good and I have no disabilites.

Did/Would any of those 10 drives hit the fairway?
No good having a fast swing without being accurate.

Hi Mike,
I suggest you start with active flexibility to increase your swing
speed. Take a look at this DVD set as it has a lot of the exercises
I use now:

Thanks.

Charlie, I am hitting it as straight now as I ever did. Just a lot longer which is great fun. And Jim, I have used that isometric training but quickly dropped it because I found it didn’t work.

Your swing is awesome! Can’t see any difference one swing to the next, to see what makes for a faster clubhead speed. I’m sure you’ll reach or surpass your 125 mph goal.

Thanks George. I hope to get close to the 125 mph goal this month.
