I have created a video that shows you how to get into a great posture position at address. Posture is one of the most under-rated parts of setup that has a big influence on how far you can hit the golf ball. And I think a lot of this has to do with balance, as Tiger Woods clearly says in this quote:
“You need to be in an athletically ready position so you can respond to movement quickly, smoothly and without losing your balance.”
Tiger Woods
So watch this posture video and take special note of the three important points I make about posture. After you watch this video I want to share something else about posture that I forgot to mention in the video…
I see some instructors saying you should have a perfectly straight back at setup (military style). But I disagree with this and here’s why. By having a perfectly straight back it often creates unnecessary tension. And unnecessary tension at setup will only limit and hurt your swing. So I suggest you follow my drill for getting into a good posture position and let your shoulders relax.
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this video and learned something new about posture.

Nick, that was well done and contained a lot tips that I have never seen or heard before.

You mentioned early in the video you had something to add that was not in the video but I did not see or hear it.

Hi Bill, glad you enjoyed it. What I forgot to mention in the video was about having a straight back. Here’s what I put below the video:
“I see some instructors saying you should have a perfectly straight back at setup (military style). But I disagree with this and here’s why. By having a perfectly straight back it often creates unnecessary tension. And unnecessary tension at setup will only limit and hurt your swing. So I suggest you follow my drill for getting into a good posture position and let your shoulders relax.”

Nick, Thanks for the tip on how far you should stand from the ball. I always feel like I’m too extended when I drive. Now I know I am. I thank you for your help.

I started playing the game in February 2007. Have read quite a few articles on the game and am always hungry for information which could help. Therefore, these hints will be put into practice at the earliest opportunity. The tip on how far to stand from the ball is worth a million bucks, since I have been trying to work out a rule-of-thumb on my own. Would you happen to have an easy guide that one can use for the width of the feet for the various clubs while on the course?

Nick
I enjoyed the video about posture but you did not mention where wieght should be distributed. Sometimes I feel my weight should be pushed more towards the balls of my feet. Also while it is a good tip to push the hips forward, how would you distribute weight between right and left.

Nick,
I took a look at this video on posture earlier this month and thought that it was informative. Unfortunately here in the Northeast (Rochester, NY, USA) it is winter and I was not able to apply these tips on the course until today. It wasn’t a perfect golf day, yet the course was playable.
I have always struggled with how far to stand away from the ball and with sometimes having a reverse pivot. Taking these posture tips, I practiced a little at home. Just swinging the club at some practice balls.
Today at the course I tried out the new posture and had great results. Normally I had a hard time hitting the driver, but today even the miss hits where going far.
Keep up the good work and thank you for putting out these tips.

Many Thanks Nick,
I watched the posture video and actually went to the driving range and tried the hip tilt by moving a couple of inches towards the target. As a new golfer on my third season I was totally amazed by the results! My right arm drops very naturally in my swing and I have gained amazing yardage and accuracy.
I am now faced with the challenge of changing my clubs to match my newly acquired range.
Keep up the good work!
Rob
