I think the second shot from behind the trees by Phil Mickelson should be considered as the shot of the year on the PGA Tour without a shadow of doubt. I think it is the situation of the tournament that really determines the greatness of the shot. This for a man, who still cannot remove the monkey from off his back for the disaster at the US Open which gave the title to Geoff Ogilvy. A chip out from where he was, which seemed like the most obvious option and one which was advocated by the commentators would have left him with a challenging up and down for par to take the tournament into playoff.
Somehow he convinced himself that this was the moment for heroics, went for the shot through the towering tress. It went through a gap not enough to see a couple of birds through and got the ball to rest within 8 feet from the pin, just avoiding the bunker to the left of the green and to top it off, he nailed the 8-foot putt. A shot that we expect from someone like a Seve not someone more famous for his choking towards the end. If only the tournament was of more importance, it would have magnified the brilliance of the shot!

Play well.
