I have just completed a short golf instructional video where I share with you two simple things you can do to hit the golf ball further. So watch the video and then post any comments you wish afterwards.

  1. Pointing the right foot slightly to the right sounds like a good idea. I will try it soon. I never would have thought of that! Thanks for the great tip!

    Jeff

  2. Nick,
Both are great ideas. It has been raining here for, it seems like, two months, so I haven’t been out at all. I will try these on the range next week.
    Thanks,
    Mike

  3. Type your comment here. I’ve been under the imprression that the key here is to turn the shoulders adequately. Then the arms can move up. By focusing more on the arms, I believe that I tend to restrict the shoulders, andthen pick up the club, loosing my swing arc in the process. Comment?

I cannot get the video to play beyond the 1:11 mark. So I only got the first tape and not the second. I recall your previous video stopped loading in the middle of the clip as well.
    Sorry.

  5. Great Ideas, Nick….
I hope to remember the tips when the courses open up. They are currently under 20 inches of snow…
    Peace…
    Mohrly

  6. Nick, thanks. I enjoy your comments immensely.

  7. hi Nick,
You always give useful tips. Whatever you have givn before I found them very useful.I shall try these tips tomorrow when I go to play. Jamuna

  8. Nick,
I think both are a great idea.
When I am able to play again,
    like everone, Ican’t becouse
of the weather. This will im-
    prove my game.

  9. Good Tips Nick! Love the Site. I did recently get my club head speed up to between 112-115 mph and that increased from around 103 in the last month! I have found for me that keeping my feet more square, restricts my lower body more on the backswing and gives me more speed. Also, I used to sway too much trying to get the speed and would actually lose speed! Now that I stay more still and just “wind up” (turn) over the ball, it gives me way more torque!
Just a few of my findings!

  10. I can’t wait to get out and try these tips.Being a 14 handicapper I will try anything to straighten up and send that ball further down the fairway, all of your tips are welcome.
    I live in hope.
    Robert.

  11. Nick,
Question for you? Since I’ve gotten my swing speed up, here are my issues. its odd to me though? My woods and drivers slice when they don’t go straight and my Irons Pull/Hook when they don’t go straight?
Does that make any sense? Why would that be happening?

    thanks,
    Matt Austin

Thank you Nick,i hope that these two great tips, will improve my game.
Keep on doing the good work!

    With friendly regards,

  14. I do point my right foot as suggested but the head alignment at preset I would not have thought of.I will give it a try on the Driving range. Moving the head on the b’swing I feel would encourage me to top the ball off the tee unless my return to impact position was well nye perfect.

  15. Nick…Great tips.Thank you. In addition, I believe Jack also turned his head as he was left eye dominant and gave himself a clearer view of the ball.

    Thanks again, Terry

  16. nick

find it all very helpfull, can we have sometuing on starting the downswing
    gordon

  17. Nick;
These are good ideas and they work for me. But all of your tips seem to involve the driver. How about some tips for the fairway woods and long-mid irons? That is where I need help!
    Regards,
    George

    hi:
I think that your videos help us to understand our problem with the swing, I hope that the next time in the course I will be better

  19. tips are great have improved my game keep them coming

  20. Nick, You appear to be advocating a long backswing…I’m curious to have your comment on JB Holmes’ backswing which is very short BUT he is one of the longest drivers on the US PGA tour.

  21. I had trouble viewing the complete video, but found your tips helpful with my driver. I still think my timing is off a little, but I think I still need to get more flexible. In the process of working with my driver I have lost my irons. My short irons were always dead on – saved me from wondering drives, but now I seem to be chopping or coming down too steeply. I can’t feel what I’m doing incorrectly. I can’t even find it by doing half 7s. I’ve tried to focus on my swing plan, but I’m still coming down steep at the ball. Any drills to help get the feel back?

  22. Dear Nick. Great tips. In swinging the club fast and trying to build up speed, how do you suggest one must grip the club? If you grip the club lightly, as if you are holding a bird, can you swing as fast as 115 mph? How important is grip pressure in building speed? As and when I get a chance to work on the drill and take the experience to the course, I have noticed that I sometimes slice the ball and sometimes just go left of the target simply (but straight). As for the distance, on straigher drives I may have added 5 yards or so.

    Pls reply.
    Thanks

  23. Tahnks for your tip´s will be trying them out on Wednesday.
I am sure they are goint to be a big help to me.
    Thanks

I have adopted some time ago your recomendations to avoid slice and they have worked perfectly.Your tips are always welcome and most of them very useful.Thank you.

  25. Hi
Both sound great.I have tried loosening my grip with good results but have tightened it up on the downswing. This sometimes worked.I will try to keep it loose and see.
Will also turn my head .will let you know
    Dale

  26. About the right foot: I take occasional lessons from Matt Mitchell, Britany Lincicome’s instructor here in Tampa Bay, Fl (no snow..78 & sunshine…sorry guys!) I have back discs in my lower back and my turning is restricted. So he taught me to not only turn my right toe out, but turn my left toe out even further. This has helped tremendously in increasing my rotation and torque. But for me, I have to keep my head straight to hit it straight with a little draw.

  27. Great tips Nick. I am in the snow here but I forwarded your tip to a friend of mine in California. He went to the driving range after he viewed it and told me he was hitting the ball at least 20 yards longer. Melt Snow, Melt!!

  28. Hi Nick,

Just found your site and the video tips are very helpful. Have been looking for some help on maybe getting an extra 10 -15 yards.

    All the best

    Richard

  29. video will not play

  30. Thanks Nick,
great tip. I improve my back swing and my shoulders turning.

  31. Type your comment here.Thank you for the most interesting tips. I now need an age reduction so that I can live long enough to play all of the golf there is to be had.
    I wish ! John

  32. Thanks for the tips. Enjoyed this one and the swing speed tests. For many years I have lifted weights quite regularlly and streach often as well. I know I am tight in most muscle group but am unwilling to give up the gym. So, more streaching seems in order.

    Nice yard you demo in!

    Stan

  33. Thanks for the videos. Do you have any other videos on youtube?

  34. Hi Nick,
An old VHS tape I’d bought years ago called Automatic Golf by Bob Mann talked about the head tilt. He advised that a golfer needed to identify their “power eye” and focus that eye on the golf ball at address. For right-handed golfers whose power eye is the left eye, it caused a head tilt to the right. Whether the head tilt opens up the ability to take a bigger backswing or keeps the power eye on the ball, it works in hitting the ball more solidly and more consistently.
