Here’s a video where I share with you a great exercise that I’ve been doing this year to help me increase my swing speed. So watch it and then I’ve got some important points to reiterate after. But I apologize in advance for the not very polished performance. I did this video two days after Jacinda was born so I was a bit tired.
This exercise I’ve just shown you is a great one for increasing active flexibility and speed at the same time. BUT, as I said in the video…it can be quite hard on your body. So if you decide to do this exercise only do it 3 times a week and start off real slow. For example, on your first day only do one swing. Then on the 3rd day do two swings and keep adding a swing each time until you can do 10 swings in one session. Remember however, you want to swing as fast as possible each swing. So take 30 – 60 seconds between each swing to give yourself a chance to recover from the previous swing and to make sure you give the next swing 100% of your attention and about 95% of your effort. Don’t swing at 100% of your potential speed because you want to hold back a little bit to help prevent injuries.
Good luck and if you have any questions about this exercise just post a comment and ask me.

The Golf Swing Test
You could have one serious swing fault costing you up to 50 yards in distance. But now you can take this swing test and see if you have this swing fault or not: http://www.yourgolfswingtest.com.

Type your comment here. Hi Nick, I have an old Driver with a solid plastic head into which I drilled two 13mm holes and filled them with molten lead (Or solder). This is not as heavy as your broom idea but I don’t think it will be so tough on someone as the broom could be even if you start of one swing then two swings. I find it pays to do some stretches beforehand as well. Cheers,
Walter.

sounds a great idea. I’m 73 and am going to have a go albeit very carefully!!

Are you sure my wife didn’t put you up to this? Now that I’ve got the broom in my hands “sweep the garage and driveway”! OR is that part of the training?

Type your comment here. Might one expect the same results if using a weighted traing driver instead of the longer-handled broom?

Hey Nick!
You have a wonderful family and the newest edition is precious. What a lucky guy you are *S*.
I love the broom exercise. I have used this consistently through the winter months for two years now. My average swing speeds have increased from around 70 to about 92 during this time. Of course, I’ve been doing other things as well yet I feel strongly this “exercise” has been quite valuable for me. After all, it was your advice upon which I got started with it!
Enjoy those kidos!

Well, I typed my comment on here earlier… Seems you may have deleted for some reason? Anyway, I’m gonna give this tip a shot, I think what I will really take from it is the “WIDE” swing arc. Now my club speed is about 105 mph and I would like to get that to around 110 to 115 mph!
Thanks,

Early signs look promising! I practiced the routine a couple of times yesterday for the first time, but more at 60% pace (I was not sure if the broom head would fly off!). Today when I played golf I had a great opening drive and a range of other shots that brough praise from my playing partner! There were however a few bad ones when I tried to up the pace as I tended to come over the top. Thus more practice clearly needed to get the speed up. I enjoy your videos and explanations. Carry on with such top tips!!

As soon as it stops raining, I’m going outside with the kitchen broom and give this tip a try. Who needs expensive training aids when this simple idea can deliver the practice power needed.
Brilliant
